How we verify
The only thing this site has to offer is that its facts are true and current. So the rules that produce those facts are worth stating plainly.
Where facts come from
- The bakery's own website, ordering page or menu. This is our primary source for hours, addresses, prices, lead times and policies.
- Direct confirmation from the bakery by phone or email.
- The bakery's own social accounts, for closures, hiatus announcements and seasonal items.
- Named local journalism, for cultural and historical context only. Never for an operational fact.
We do not take listing content from Google Maps or Yelp. Their terms do not permit it, and a directory built on someone else's data is not worth reading anyway.
Unknown means unknown
Every optional detail is recorded as confirmed yes, confirmed no, or unknown. If we have not confirmed something, the page says so rather than leaving you to assume. A blank is never a quiet no. This is the difference between a filter you can trust and one you cannot.
When sources disagree
We do not average and we do not pick a favourite. We either leave the claim out or state it with the uncertainty attached, and we flag it for a direct check.
What we will not publish
- Invented hours, prices, lead times, phone numbers or descriptions. Not once, not to fill a gap.
- Ratings or review counts. We do not collect reviews, so we do not display them or mark them up for search engines.
- Photographs we do not have permission to use. If a profile has no photo, that is why.
- Claims that a bakery is safe for a specific allergy. We report what the bakery says about its own recipes and tell you to ask them directly.
- A "best of" ranking without a stated method. We do not sell position and we do not pretend to a verdict we have not earned.
How often we re-check
- Every profile shows the date a person last checked it. That is a real date, not the date the site was last deployed.
- Reported errors: within a week.
- Hours, prices and lead times: quarterly.
- Everything: twice a year.
- Seasonal detail such as paczki pricing is either refreshed or removed each year, never left to rot.
Closures
A bakery that closes comes off the live list promptly, because a directory that sends you to a shuttered storefront has failed at its only job. Where a closure is worth recording we keep an accurate note rather than quietly deleting the page.
